Mountainview Wins the Jasmin Roy Purple Ribbon Award!
On Tuesday May 13th Mountainview was awarded the Purple Ribbon Award from the Jasmin Roy Foundation in partnership with La Banque TD for the work that we have done and continue to do against homophobia. The award was presented by Jasmin Roy, president de la Foundation Jasmin Roy, and Georges Clermont, Director Adjoint et Membre du Comite LGBT au Sein du Groupe Banque TD.
M Roy was impressed by the open hearts of the Mountainview community and expressed his joy at experiencing a school dedicated to stopping Homophobia. Mr Roy explained to the children at our assembly, that he was the victim of homophobic bullying for 5 years, and that coming to Mountainview was like Christmas for him.
The story was reported on Global News, Le Journal de Quebec, and on CIME radio. For pictures from press conference and assembly check out the Foundation Jasmin Roy website as well as the Sir Wilfrid Laurier Facebook page. M. Roy also spoke about his visit to Mountainview on Salut Bonjour. Finally on May 29th Claudia Marques from The Beat came to the school to interview the staff and children on how it felt to win the prize and why they were proud of their school.
THANK YOU to our PPO and all the parent volunteers for making our Staff appreciation week one of the best ever! Click here to see a special message from the staff! Staff Thanks
Student activism at Mountainview: Last week some of our Cycle 3 students started a petition to remove the gender specific sections (the girl side vs the boy side) of toy stores. To support this petition go to Change.Org .
Registration: The registration period is officially closed. The majority of our classes are closed for new registrations, however there are still a small number of places available in some classes. Please call the school for details.
Mountainview in the News: Thank you to the students, staff and parents for another beautiful Week to End Homophobia. Both the Global News and The Beat radio reporters were amazed at how polite, well informed, well spoken, and open to diversity Mountainview students are; that is the result of a COMMUNITY effort. Our motto Mountainview Cares is more than words: it is who we are! Congratulations to everyone!
